The client’s brief required an iconic project that would become a destination in its own right. The 255-suite hotel is set within the fringe of a UNESCO world heritage site and a critical consideration was the existing heritage shophouses located on site. The building shapes were envisaged to relate to the traditional elements of a peranakan shophouse and also to provide an iconic form that would be immediately recognisable and associated with the site and the client. Programatically, the final design incorporates hotel facilities, restaurants, medical wellness facilities and an amazing rooftop bar that captures the stunning Penang skyline. Numerous feasibility options were explored during the concept development for the project to suit the clients budget. Working collaboratively with local consultants, construction will commence towards the end of 2021.

This project is done in collaboration with Cumulus Studio.

The Sydney Kensington PBSA redevelopment site on Anzac Parade plays a significant role in the urban edge of Sydney’s CBD, surrounded by educational institutions and commercial areas. The proposed design has been carefully crafted to respect the identity of the surrounding environment while adding a student accommodation facility. The ground level design focuses on activating the street edges, with new entrances of both Anzac Parade and Addison Street, as well as the possibility for retail spaces along Anzac Parade to encourage activity at street level. The tower’s form has been thoughtfully shaped to respond to its surroundings, offering views of the surrounding neighborhood while ensuring visibility from the prominent Anzac Parade street.
